Shenzhen Bay, Lok Ma Chau or the Bridge? Choosing a Crossing
The crossing you use decides how long the trip takes. A plain-language guide to the main road crossings between Hong Kong and the mainland.
Information
Border traffic: allow extra time during Golden Week
Hong Kong and Shenzhen are linked by several land crossings, and each suits a different part of the city on the other side. Your driver will usually choose, but knowing the options helps you plan meeting times.
Shenzhen Bay
Reached across the Shenzhen Bay Bridge from the western New Territories. Hong Kong and mainland controls sit in the same building on the Shenzhen side, and it leads straight into Nanshan, Shekou and Qianhai.

Lok Ma Chau and Huanggang
The central crossing, leading into Futian. It is often the choice for late-night trips; check current opening hours, as they have changed over the years and the mainland side is being rebuilt.
Heung Yuen Wai
The newest road crossing, in the east, convenient for Luohu and eastern Shenzhen.
The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge
Starting near the airport, the bridge crosses the Pearl River estuary to Zhuhai and Macau. It is the fastest road route to the western side of the delta.

Opening hours, queues and rules change. For anything time-critical, check the official Immigration Department and port websites on the day.
